Chief Marshal Kofi Yovoyan, the Duheto 1 of Yovoyan community, Badagry on Sunday said all the land in the community belong to Yovoyan family.
The chief urged the public to disregard the publication, being published in a magazine for the ordination of Rev. Fr. Pascal Wisdom Denu, SMA, Of the Catholic of St Anne Yovoyan Sea Beach ordained a Catholic Priest on 1stJuly, 2021 at Church of Ascension, Airport Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
The community ruler in a press briefing organised by the ruling house in Badagry said that what was published in a magazine is not the true historical background of the community.
The traditional chief said that the author wrote that one Chief Seriki Abass allocated a portion of land to Yovoyan who founded the Island for fishing, which was not true.
He urged the public to disregard the article, adding that
the family had all facts and documents to prove that their forefathers founded the island.
“The first paragraph of an article in page 15 should be disregarded; for this is not factual nor does it details the brief history of Yovoyan Sea –Beach as a settlement in the coastal area of Badagry Local Government.
“The public is hereby notified that the ST. Andrew Catholic Parish, Kweme Sea Beach, (Seme Border) publication, published 1stJuly, 2021 on page 15, of the aforementioned magazine first paragraph should totally be disregarded.
“For the factual brief history, the head of the community should be contacted, in person of chief marshal Kofi Yovoya” he said.
