Niger State Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Sani Idris has been kidnapped.
Confirming the development, the Secretary to the Government of Niger state, SSG, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the commissioner was kidnaped by bandits at about one o’clock in the early hours of today from his home at Baban Tunga village in Tafa local government of the State.
According to him, Security agencies are however, already trailing the bandits with a view to apprehending them, he was kidnapped around 1am at his hometown, Baban Tunga in Tafa local government area of the state.
He said the security are already on his trail and hope they would be able to trace and rescue him unhurt adding that the abductors have not reached out to anyone.
“He was kidnapped at the early hours of today around 1am at Baban Tunga in Tafa local government. Security are already on the trail of the kidnappers, we hope they would discover him soon and rescue him unharm,” he said.
Family sources said the gunmen said to be numbering about 20, stormed the residence of the Commissioner at about 1.00am under a heavy downpour and shot to the air before abducting their victim in front of his second wife.
The commissioner was whisked away under the heavily rain, and abductors are yet to make any contact with the family as at the time of filing this report.
The state Police Command is yet to make any statement to that effect.
