Rep. Babatunde Hunpe, (APC-Badagry Federal Constituency) has commended members of the All Progressives Party (APC) for a peaceful congress in the area.
The lawmaker gave the commendation at the end of the APC Local Government Area congress in Badagry, Lagos State on Saturday, held at the St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry, Lagos.
The APC congress to select local government area executives to run the affairs of the party in the LGAs, held nationwide on Saturday.
According to Hunpe, this is the only recognised congress from the national level to the state level.
The lawmaker said he was happy that all party leaders in Badagry, were around to show their commitment.
“As you can see, the three chairmen of the party are present here. Mr Segun Onilude of Badagry local government area, Mr Joseph Gbenu of Badagry West Local Government Development Area (LCDA) and Mr Samson Olatunde of Olorunda LCDA are here with me to conduct the election.
“This is to show that the election went well and was peaceful, this indicates that there is no problem in Badagry,” he said.
Hunpe, however, appealed to members who were not favoured by the election to remain calm and wait for their time.
“This is an election, if the election do not favour you today, it may favour you tomorrow, because tomorrow may be your turn.
“This is the only thing that can bring progress to our party,” he said.
About 2,200 party supporters were in attendance.
The chairman, Local Government Area Congress Committee of the party, Mr Oladimeji Solanke, declared all the candidates as elected.
He said Mr Muritala Gafar, was elected as chairman of the party, alongside Mr Ade Balogun as secretary, Mr Saturday Joshua as youth leader, Ms Agnes Zosu- woman leader, and Waliu Shuaib as publicity secretary.
Gafar promised to ensure quality leadership and fairness in his administration.
He appealed to members for support, promising an open door administrative policy.
The chairman also implored other members of the executives to be loyal and committed to their individual roles, to enhance betterment and victory for the party in all elections.
The Badagry LGA chairman, Onilude in his remarks, said the hitch free congress had further reaffirmed the oneness and unity among members of the party in the area.
He urged the newly elected executives to carry all members along and ensure constant consultations with leaders of the party in decision makings.
The Badagry chairman also applauded members for their loyalty and commitment to party activities.
