On Saturday, September 4, 2021, officers of the Lagos Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) and men of the Nigeria Police Force devised a new trick of extorting the motorists as a result of traffic gridlock which occurred along Ikorodu Road.
Capitalizing on the helpless situation the motorists found themselves, LAMATA officers organized some LASTMA officers and a policeman to mislead the motorists to ply the BRT lane. They were led in the nefarious activity by a police rider and some LASTMA officers.
The LASTMA officers and the Police officers deceived them that they were just helping them out because of the traffic gridlock.
Consequently, over 100 vehicles comply and ply the BRT lane only to be accosted by about 30 LAMATA officer accosted as they were ascending the Mile 12 Bridge and taken to their office in Ojata were they were given Notification of Offence letter signed by one Usman Mohammmed.
In the process, an elderly woman lost her child in the process.
They were therefore directed to pay the sum of N70, 000 to a private account bearing ELINAD GLOBAL SERVICE LTD with ACCOUNT NO 7407022010.
The account does not belong to the Lagos State Government or LAMATA
The affected victims of the LAMATA, LASTMA and Police are now crying for justice because they were deceived by these government to ply the BRT lane to be investigated and brought to justice.
Efforts to reach the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Hakkeem Odumosu was abortive.
