Gills Nsa, the Nation s Newspaper in Cross River State has been elected the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalist,(NUJ) in a free and fair contest as he pulled a total of 76 Votes to defeat his opponent, Ika Ibor, out gone Secretary of Council who got 50 votes.
In the State Secretary position, Solomon Azu of the state own Newspaper, The Nigerian Chronicles beat the Sun Newspaper reporter, Judex Okoro with 64 Votes to 59 Votes in keenly contested elections while Archibong Bassey of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Calabar emerges as the Financial Secretary of the Union respectively.
Making the declaration after the election at the Council Secretariat at Enerst Etim Bassey Press Center, Calabar by the returning Officer, Opara Dokubo, who is NUJ Vice President in charge of Zone F South South after a free and fair conduct and adjuged the best in the country.
Speaking in his acceptance remarks, Gills Nsa expressed gratitude to his colleagues journalist for the confidence reposed on him to pilots the affairs of the council as a truly professional body as the last hope of the common man in the society.
He also promise to ensure that the Union members in the state will enjoy a good wellfare parkage and quality standard service now that the practice has gone digital as journalist do not have retirement age.
He also thanks the outgoing Chairman and members of his executives Mt. Victor Udu for making it possible for a very simple transition of power without rancur.
