The University of Calabar, considered as the second generation University East of the Niger has recorded 32 1st Class Students as the highest number of students to attain that height since the inception of the institution 49 years ago.
This information was revealed to media practitioners in Calabar by the amiable first female Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Florence Banku Obi during the Press briefing to Mark the 36TH Convocation ceremony activities of the institution fixed on Saturday,23rd, March,2024 inside Abraham Odia Stadium, University of Calabar.
The Vice Chancellor attribute this feet recorded by the students to her administration’s low tolerance for sorting and reduction on marks for sale as the students now opt for the new Florence Obi’s culture which is simply “reading hard option”.
She also narrated that meritorious awards system is now part of her administration’s policy as they had last year given award to the best hard working security personnel of the institution, best cleaner as well as the best administrative staff while in this year another feather is added which is the best hard working academic staff of the institution that record the highest of 600 citation count in the person of Professor Meremikwu of Department of Peadiatric.
Professor Obi also disclose that the institution under her watch had delve into past academic records where she had discovered that about 25,000 students of the institution had abandoned their study due to extended time duration and they have been recalled and grant them Armnesty to re-register and complete their academic activities without further delay.
